Welcome to In His Steps Dance Studio
We are very excited to begin the 2018/2019 school year continuing to mentor and inspire dancers of all ages. We believe this will be yet another great year for our students and their families.
In His Steps dance studio was birthed from the hearts of the two owners Nicole Kroah and Roseanna Caldeira with the intention of creating a wholesome and Christian based environment for students and teachers alike.
With over 40 years of combined experience in dance instruction, performance and studio administration In His Steps will provoke every student to reach their highest potential in the truest form of the art of dance.
Our goal is to teach our students that their talent is a God-given gift for the purpose of expression and influencing others. We want to see our students reach their highest potential not only in their technique and performance ability but also in their character as individuals..
Statement of Principles
- We believe in the fair treatment of all students;
- Students will be respected as individuals and encouraged to develop their unique gift;
- We believe in promoting a healthy self image;
- We will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national/ethnic origin, financial status or gender (sex).
Roseanna Caldeira, born & raised on Long Island, has been dancing since the age of 3. Studying and attending classes her entire life, by her teenage years she was student teaching in a local studio and at the age of 16 began teaching classes of her own.
After high school, she continued to pursue her dance career, training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Pointe, in the Arts Program at Dowling College; at Lumier Dance with Svetlana Caton-Noble, at Frank Ohmen School of Ballet, all the while teaching & assisting the Head of the Dance Academy where she was employed. Throughout her years of teaching at URCDA, she became the Assistant Director of the Dance Academy. Besides her artistic and choreographical input, she was also responsible for various administrative and organization duties. She was placed in charge of a Company of girls that she trained from the ground up. Those girls have since gone on to professional careers in dance and the performing arts (some of which currently teach at In His Steps).
She participated and choreographed pieces for various dance competitions throughout the years. In 1999, she was nominated Dancer Of The Year which brought her to Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida to perform with dancers from all over the country.
She has also choreographed and performed pieces in front of thousands of viewers on numerous stages throughout Long Island & beyond, including Upper Room Christian World Center, Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, Dowling College, Jones Beach & others.

Today, Roseanna co-owns & runs In His Steps Dance Studio along with her business partner Nicole Kroah. Together their vision and aspirations for a dance studio go beyond the status quo. Her wish is to take her life-long experiences and couple them with her growing vision to create an atmosphere of creativity for each individual student.
In addition to owning and direction the dance studio, Roseanna continues to work full time, helps run a non-profit animal rescue (Crossed Paws Animal Rescue), is a certified foster mother and has four beautiful children.
"It's not just about teaching technique or style. It's about finding the gifting within each student & enhancing their uniqueness". Roseanna
Nicole Kroah, part owner of IHS Dance Studio, an established choreographer and teacher, began her dance journey at 5 years old at Upper Room Christian Dance Academy. She studied there until the age of 18. During her years at the academy, Nicole performed yearly in original productions, Cantatas, recitals and competitions which spanned across Long Island to MSG. Early on, Nicole began to feel that her love for ballet was growing beyond the walls of the Academy and began to branch out to other companies to advance her training.
Nicole joined Frank Ohman School of Ballet, where she studied the Neoclassical ballet technique and had the opportunity to perform with the company. Shortly after leaving Ohman, Nicole began studying with Svetlana Caton-Noble and Venti Petrov at Lumiere Ballet, School of Russian Ballet. Nicole studied here extensively, dedicating much of her time to ballet and completing multiple summer intensives and performing with the company. During her intense ballet training, teaching, continuing at URCDA, she pushed herself to audition and be accepted to Nassau Boces Long Island High School for the Arts. There she studied an array of techniques from different choreographers and master teachers along with performing while diving into dance history. Nicole graduated as a dance major in 2002.
After High School Nicole was accepted into The University of Akron Dance program, part of The National Association of School of Dance. Nicole was a member of the dance company all 4 years and given the opportunity to perform on large stages doing well known ballets such as Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty to original works from teachers and guest choreographers such as, Martha Graham Company, The Pennsylvania Ballet and Jennifer Muller| The Works. The University program also gave students the opportunity to choreograph and perform their own pieces, which is something she took part in. Nicole graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Dance concentrating on ballet and modern. It was at the University that Nicole fell back in love with the Neoclassical (Balanchine) technique which influences her teaching today.
After college Nicole moved to Astoria, NY to pursue a dancing career and began teaching at local studios while taking classes in the city and auditioning. After a few months she decided to pursue the dream of having a studio and at the age of 24 embarked on the journey we now call In His Steps Dance Studio with former teacher and friend Roseanna Caldeira. To keep up with the ever changing dance world, styles, techniques and choreography she felt she must continue to sew into her passion. Nicole continues to take class regularly and takes pride in attending work shops across the East Coast to further her education and connect with teachers, studio owners and choreographers. She has attended conventions at The Dance Life Retreat Center ballet training, Nuvo Dance Convention, The Pulse teacher workshop and more to come this year! She has choreographed award winning pieces for the Company here at IHS as well as being recognized for outstanding choreography.
Nicole also became a member of Dance Educators of America in 2008.
Nicole is a mother to two amazing children, Rylee and CJ, and wife to a supportive husband Chad. Nicole loves that she can share the arts with her children and feels fortunate enough that she is able to share her love with others. To her it is so much more than a dance class, she strives to instill confidence, integrity and passion to each of her students.

Janine Leonhardt, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1976, began her dance “training” at the young age of 3 years old. Expressing a love for dance to her parents, she continued on to take lessons and wanted to persue this from a very young age. At the age of 6, her Ballet teacher saw an advanced technique and passion in Janine and decided to place her in a class with older, more experienced dancers. (She fondly recalls not being tall enough to reach the barre and had to have one specifically designed for her height).
She continued on with her training and lessons in various local dance studios in Brooklyn, NY and Long Island, NY throughout her childhood and teenage years in Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz. At the age of 14 she was asked to begin to student teach at a local dance studio in Dix Hills, Long Island, NY, (URC Dance Academy), which led into teaching her own classes by the time she was 18. Now, with almost 2 decades of teaching experience, (specifically to early childhood aged children), Janine is still as passionate and even more in love with teaching the art of dance and is looking to further her dance education in early childhood development.
Along with her teaching experiences, for many years during her teenaged years and twenties, Janine performed with the dance troop at Upper Room Christian World Center in their year round performances in their own 2500 seat auditorium. Her experience with them has also brought her to other stages and venues as well such as Jones Beach all the way to Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Today, Janine is a mother of 2 daughters (ages 10 & 7) who also have a natural love for dance and attend In His Steps Dance Studio. After years of teaching so many children and watching them grow to become aspiring and successful dancers, she considers it a special privilege to have taught her own daughter’s Ballet class in the last couple of years.
All of these experiences have been her foundation and she continues to tell her young students, “True dance is not just from what we learn in our heads, it comes first from our hearts.”
